THE DEVIL AND GOD ARE BOTH IN THE DETAILS

The Devil and God are Both in the Details is a series of drawings on disposable mop pads. In 2018 I noticed what appeared to be patterns made by the dirt when I mopped. Central to these patterns was what I interpreted as a “V.” The phenomenon of seeing patterns where they don’t exist and establishing meanings from chaos is called pareidolia. Like a Christian finding the face of Jesus in a stain or in the burn of their toast, I find “The Great V,” in my labor. These drawings are representations of my struggle to reconcile my belief in God with the damage that religious narratives have done to my gender.
