This work was inspired by the pressures society puts on women. We should have careers, be attentive mothers, maintain the home, and be perpetually beautiful. With so much on our plates, we experience constant feelings of guilt and exhaustion when we simply can’t do it all. A trial by fire is a test of one’s ability to perform under pressure. The term comes from historical practices of using fire to determine one’s guilt.
